Spitefire LABS
Probably the best VST you can get for FREE!
Even though it might not be "an infinite series" of instruments as claimed by Spitfire themselves, it is still a VST plugin of such quality (and quantity) that it easily could be sold for several $100!
But be aware, you will need plenty of hard drive space if you're thinking about downloading every single instrument (totally worth it). You're also able to choose destination folder for downloads and installs.
LABS gets updated with new instruments frequently.
The gift that keeps on giving. This one is amazing.

HALion Sonic 7 Free
HALion Sonic 7 is a free player from Steinberg for sample libraries and synthesizers. The player itself comes without any content, but you can also download these four libraries for free to get you started.
Alto Glockenspiel Essential, Guitar Harmonics Essential, LoFi Piano, Novel Piano
This is a huge download, and the installation is a bit messy. Steinberg will force you to download and install onto your main drive (C: on PC), so be prepared to have some space left! You will however be able to manually move the files when the installation is done.

Do you want something like Xfer Records Serum without paying a dime? Look no further.
VITAL is a BEAST of a "spectral warping wavetable synth". You can download the synth for free and create your own sounds and find new free presets online, or buy more from the online store.

Another freebie from Spitfire, and this time it's a dedicated orchestra plugin, the "BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover". This VST plugin is filled with 33 totally free high-quality instruments ready to go straight into your productions.
This is a given download for anyone out there who's ever thought about using any type of orchestral instrument in any way. Just get it. It's a no-brainer.
